Gift ideas for Mother's Day

Mothering Sunday this year (2024) falls on 10th March – a little earlier than it often is because Easter is a little early this year.  Most people know that Mothering Sunday wasn’t originally about Mums at all but about people returning home to their ‘mother church’ during Lent.  Over the years, it has come to be a day to celebrate not just mothers but grandmas, aunties and any good ladies who have been important to us.  Whether you are celebrating a Mum, a stepmum, a sister or even a daughter who is a Mum herself, it’s a lovely excuse to treat them to something special to let them know you value them.  Here at Hambrooks Garden Centre, Titchfield, we’ve compiled a few Mother’s Day gift ideas that we think they might really appreciate.

Everything you need to plant up your own hanging basket

A gift you’ve made yourself

Even if you are not the most practical or gardening-minded person, we think anyone could plant up a really pretty hanging basket or pot to make a great seasonal gift.  We have everything you need: the baskets, basket liners, compost and a great selection of plants, both evergreens and those in flower now.  If you’re concerned about budget, this will certainly be more cost-effective than buying a ready-made pot or basket elsewhere, plus the time and thought you put into it will be priceless!

A stunning orchid

These cymbidium orchids are real showstoppers!  Although they look exotic, they actually don’t require any more care than many other houseplants, so you won’t be saddling your Mum with something tricky to look after.  They should flower right through the winter, bringing colour and cheer indoors.  Their leaves and flower stems can grow up to a metre tall, so they are a real statement plant.  We have various shades of pinks, whites and mauves in stock now.  Priced from £39.99, we think you get a lot of plant for your money.

(We do have a range of other houseplants in stock, too, of course, if something this showy isn’t her thing!)

Cymbidium orchids are easier to care for than you think
a wide range of plant feeds and fertilizers

If your Mum already has enough houseplants…

She would probably welcome some plant food!  We have a selection to suit any plant, including cacti and succulents, citrus, bonsai, orchids and a general houseplant food.  Prices start at a very pocket-friendly £3.99 per bottle.  (Don’t forget we also have food and fertilisers for the garden outside too!)

Time to watch the wildlife

One of the joys of having a garden or balcony is being able to watch feathered visitors and other wildlife appreciate it too.  A pretty birdbath will ensure they keep visiting and will be a gift that lasts for years.  We have a selection of sizes and styles to suit all tastes and gardens.  The stone-effect material is frost proof and will gently and naturally weather with age.  Prices from £47.99.

Let her choose her own gift

If you really can’t decide what to get her, did you know that we have Hambrooks Gift Vouchers?  Available in units of £5 value, your Mum can use her voucher to spend on anything in our Titchfield Garden Centre.  Choose from one of our four beautiful voucher designs and a colourful envelope to present it in.  If your Mum doesn’t live near us, how about some National Garden Scheme Vouchers that she could spend in 1400 garden centres across the UK?

And don’t forget the card!

As well as a Mother’s Day gift, you’ll want to send a lovely card. Cunningly, at Hambrooks Garden Centre, Titchfield, we’ve put our lovely selection of greetings cards right next to the tills in our Centre so you’ve no excuse for forgetting!  From beautiful flowers to local scenes, we have a range of any occasion cards that your Mum is sure to love.

N. Haggard 20 September 2022

I just wanted to drop you a quick note to say how delighted I am with my new garden.

Jon, my designer, listened to my ideas and delivered on everything I asked for. I wanted something different to any garden I’d had before, no lawn, no landscaping but packed with plants. He designed such a lovely secret garden, around a statement tree. And I have to commend him for his unwavering patience! I changed my mind a hundred times but never did he give me the impression that he was losing patience with my endless indecision. And my confidence in him led me to place an order for over £10k.

My landscaping team, Blade and Tony, were exceptional, from their work ethic, skill and knowledge, to the way they dealt with me, the customer. My standards are very high and I couldn’t fault them.

All in all, a very professional team of people. And it showed that they all care. I’m over the moon with the finished result. I will send you a before and after photo. Thank you so much.

A delighted customer.

My front garden has been transformed by Andy and Bradley who both worked incredibly hard and I am delighted with the result. Andy had the vision and skill to turn my idea into reality and I can't thank him enough.

H. Sharp Sept 2021

I just wanted to let you know how delighted I am with my new garden. Melanie was a delight to work with and the ideas she had have worked perfectly. Also Sheldon laid the patio beautifully and him and Dave were a pleaseure to have at my house. Quiet workers and polite.

B. Rendell April 2021

I would like to say how delighted we are with the work carried out. Mel, Paul and Tony all worked very hard, they totally took on board the specific need relating to safety as well as the general garden issues. Paul and Tony were excellent at consulting and discussing with me what I felt best in terms of the brief and adjusting if and as necessary, constantly pleasant and polite to deal with. Mel had picked up on particular issues from the first consultation and offered valuable advice. The outcome means a great deal less worry for me going forward.
Altogether a very positive experience and outcome which I would not hesitate to recommend to others.

Stephen March 2021

Dom and Adam's work (garden maintenance) is greatly appreciated. Dom really listened to everything we discussed very carefully and went out of his way to understand and then act upon that discussion. We are extremely pleased with the work done - both to the pond and pyracantha.
