Sloping gardens vary from flat terraced areas, to planting at the original levels. Or most successfully, a combination of the two. Different levels in gardens does not mean you can’t have the garden of your dreams. The use of oak sleepers as dividers and as retainers, or even steps is popular with areas of planting in between. We also love creating terraces on different levels, which often allows a new vista from the garden.
Small or steep slopes usually need some areas retained in order to be usable, but larger slopes give greater scope for variation within the design.
